Frequently Asked Questions

QWhat is the difference between Indian and International numbering?
Indian numbering groups digits as thousand, lakh (100,000), and crore (10,000,000) — e.g. 1,00,00,000. International numbering groups digits as thousand, million, and billion — e.g. 10,000,000.
QCan I convert decimal amounts, like for a cheque?
Yes — enter the decimal portion separately and it will be shown as "and XX paise" (Indian) or "and XX cents" (International), useful for writing amounts on cheques.
QWhat is the largest number this tool supports?
The Number to Words converter supports numbers up to 999 trillion (International) or hundreds of crore (Indian). Roman numeral conversion is limited to 1–3999, the standard range for Roman numerals.
QWhy can't Roman numerals represent numbers above 3999?
Standard Roman numerals have no symbol for 5,000 or higher without special notation (like an overline), so 3999 (MMMCMXCIX) is the practical upper limit for everyday use.
QIs my data sent to a server?
No. All conversions happen locally in your browser using JavaScript. Nothing is sent to or stored on any server.

ℹ️ About This Calculator

Number-to-words conversion breaks the number into groups (thousand/lakh/crore for Indian, thousand/million/billion for International) and maps each group to words. Roman numeral conversion uses the standard subtractive notation (e.g. IV for 4, IX for 9, XL for 40).
