Frequently Asked Questions
QHow do I calculate GST on an amount?
GST amount = Base amount × GST rate ÷ 100. The total price including GST = Base amount + GST amount. For example, ₹10,000 at 18% GST = ₹1,800 GST, total ₹11,800.
QHow do I remove GST from a total price?
Base amount = Total price ÷ (1 + GST rate ÷ 100). For example, ₹11,800 at 18% GST = ₹11,800 ÷ 1.18 = ₹10,000 base, with ₹1,800 GST.
QWhat is the difference between CGST, SGST, and IGST?
For intra-state supply (within the same state), GST is split equally between CGST (Central GST) and SGST (State GST) — each is half the total GST rate. For inter-state supply, the full amount is charged as IGST (Integrated GST) instead.
QWhat are the standard GST rates in India?
India uses five main GST slabs: 0.25%, 3%, 5%, 12%, 18%, and 28%. Most goods and services fall under 5%, 12%, 18%, or 28%, with 0.25% and 3% reserved for specific items like precious stones and gold.
About This Calculator
GST is calculated using the standard formulas prescribed under India's GST law. CGST and SGST are each exactly half of the total GST rate for intra-state transactions; IGST equals the full GST rate for inter-state transactions.
