Strictly, no. Mass is how much matter an object contains, while weight is the force gravity applies to that mass and belongs in newtons. Every unit on this page measures mass, so the results hold anywhere, whatever the local gravity happens to be.

Weight and mass are different quantities, although daily use treats them as one, and like most converters this one works in mass. The ton is where conversions go wrong. A metric ton is 1,000 kilograms, a US short ton is 907.185 kilograms and a UK long ton is 1,016.05 kilograms, so three units written almost identically differ by more than 10 percent. Ounces split too: the troy ounce used for precious metals is heavier than the everyday ounce of 28.3495 grams listed here.

Eleven units are provided, from micrograms and carats up to long tons. The kilogram is the base unit: an entry is multiplied by its unit's mass in kilograms, then divided by that of the target unit. The result is rounded to four decimals when it is 10 or more and to six or eight when it is smaller. It is computed in your browser.
